Lancaster County finishes primary ballot count

Lancaster County election officials say all ballots from the May 12 primary have now been counted, including provisional ballots counted Wednesday afternoon. The county's results page says the canvassing board is scheduled to meet Tuesday, May 26, to certify the election results.

That means the public count is complete, but the results are not formally certified yet. If you're tracking close legislative, university regent, county, or local races, May 26 is the next official checkpoint.

Jamaica North Trail closes briefly for a burn

Lincoln Parks and Recreation says a portion of the Jamaica North Trail will close from noon to 3 p.m. today for a prescribed burn. The closure is between the 14th Street crossing and the Rock Island Trail Connector Bridge.

The city says prescribed burns help manage prairie and natural areas. For trail users, the practical note is simple: pick another route through early afternoon and expect smoke near the work area.

Nebraska softball opens a historic home Super Regional

Nebraska softball hosts Oklahoma State tonight at Bowlin Stadium in the first NCAA Super Regional ever played in Lincoln, Nebraska Athletics says. The Huskers enter 49-6 as the No. 4 overall seed, with games scheduled for today and Friday and a third game Saturday if needed.

Tonight's first pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT, with Friday's game at 4 p.m. CT. The series brings postseason crowds to the northwest side of campus and puts Nebraska two wins from the Women's College World Series.
