Regents take up a 4.25% tuition increase Thursday

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents meets Thursday at Varner Hall in Lincoln, where the board is scheduled to consider the university's 2026-27 operating budget and a 4.25% systemwide tuition increase.

The proposal comes as the university says its next fiscal year includes a 0.621% base state appropriation increase and a $5 million reduction in biomedical research funding. Regents are also scheduled to consider a systemwide artificial intelligence institute, major Selleck Quadrangle housing and dining renovations, and the president's recommendation to name H. Dele Davies as UNMC chancellor.

Bright Spot

Lincoln added nearly 100 acres southwest of Pioneers Park for the Prairie Corridor on Haines Branch project. The city says the land advances a planned trail and conservation corridor between Pioneers Park Nature Center and Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center. Details

On June 16, 1870, the Nebraska Advertiser in Brownville published an item about an early Nebraska State Historical Society. The 1869 organization listed mostly Lincoln leaders, giving today's state historical society roots in the capital city's early civic network.
